Background:
The concept of money has evolved over time from commodity to metallic / paper currency and now digital currency. The basic tenet of money performing the primary functions of medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value would continue to hold good, even though its form and functions have changed. The Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) / Digital Rupee (or e?) a digital variant of physical currency, has implications for payment systems, monetary policy implementation and transmission as well as for the structure & stability of the financial system. The changing features of money are also defining the new financial landscape of the economy.
