Background

The Indian economy has demonstrated a strong resilience against a challenging global environment marked by geopolitical tensions, disruptive trade policies, volatility in commodity prices and fast changing global financial landscape. Even though India began FY2026-27 on a strong footing, with real GDP growth accelerating to 7.8 per cent in Q1, supported by robust domestic demand, but the economic outlook remains exposed to risks arising from global trade fragmentation, external financial conditions, commodity price movements and geopolitical developments. Inflation dynamics, monetary policy actions, movements in interest rates and liquidity conditions will continue to have significant implications for financial intermediation and the cost and availability of timely credit. Developments in the external sector, including capital flows and exchange-rate movements, continue to raise concerns of financial stability and inclusive growth. Against this backdrop, the banking and financial sector will have to play a major role in supporting sustained economic growth by facilitating credit to productive sectors and financing infrastructure while managing emerging risks of AI driven economic uncertainties.

Objective

The Conference will provide Chief Economists and senior economists from banks and financial institutions a platform to deliberate on India’s growth outlook and key global and domestic macroeconomic developments. Discussions will focus on inflation, interest rates, credit and investment cycles, external sector developments and their implications for the financial sector. The conference will also examine emerging risks and structural trends which will have a bearing on banks’ balance sheets, profitability, asset quality and financial stability which will be shaping India’s economic trajectory towards a ‘Vikshit Bharat’ .
